In the fall of 2018, I met Ailsa Gilliam, founder of SheroHub LLC, at a game jam hosted by the Anti-Defamation League (ADL). After we collaborated on a game jam project, she hired me to write a visual novel-style educational game in Unity. My tasks included:
Creating eight characters, each of whom struggled with a different form of relationship abuse
Coming up with a fun narrative structure: high school students meeting up to plan a talent show
As with the game loop of dating sims, the player can hang out with each character…but the player’s job is to listen and advise, not flirt!
Using Unity/Fungus to implement dialogue for each conversation
Writing documentation
Preparing the game for localization into Haitian kreyòl
SheroHub is being implemented as part of a plan teach better relationship habits and awareness to public school students in Westchester County, NY.
